Task 2 Integrated Server Solution

A. Introduction

The basic concept of Virtual Machines or VM is to operate one or more computers within the same computers where all other operating systems can work fine and be able to process all the functionalities like a computer (azure.Microsoft, 2022). Each operating system in a virtual system can behave like a separate window and perform functions independently. The host machine is the physical computer machine within which the guest computers are installed. One or more guests can function as a single host computer independently with proper configuration. VMware workstation is being used here in the host computer and for the guest computer,Debian and Windows 7 are being installed. Several tasks are performed to complete the deliverables of the task (Tao et al., 2019). IP address checking is there to verify whether both operating systems are on the same network or not. After determining the system, the ping test will be done. After a successful ping test, folders and files will be shared within two operating systems.

B. Management Report

a. Overview of the Operating Systems

An operating system or OS is the software that creates a bridge between the hardware part and the software part of the computer to get all the functionalities done (Jived et al., 2018). The OS acts as an interface between them and provides connectivity. All the functionalities such as file management, storage and memory allocation related decisions, connectivity, and other processes are being managed by the Operating system. In this case, two guest operating systems are installed in a single host Virtual Machine that is a VMware workstation such as Debian and Windows 7. For each case, a separate discussion is being made.

Debian- The project of Debian is started in the year 1993, which was first introduced as an all-free software and the developer introduced Debian as a coherent software based on the distribution process of the Linux kernel (Ubuntu, 2022).GNU philosophy is the main foundation in this case where varieties of activities are managed and delivered in a proper manner. Here "Debian Social Contract" is being used to segment all the commitments with the Free Software Community. In addition to this, Debian Free Software Guidelines are there which will provide clear statements for the project and all the related criteria will be fulfilled for operating this software in a basic manner. Debian Policy Manual is there to check the quality of the software and all the requirements of the software will be delivered.

Windows 7- In the year 2009, Microsoft introduced this operating system. The sixth generation ofWindows Vista is followed in this case for operating this system. In order to control all the functionalities, a Graphical User Interface or GUI is being used and the system can be operated with the help of a mouse and a keyboard. In this operating system, touch screens are being introduced where users can manage all the functionalities by only touching (Ivanovet al., 2018). Several versions of Windows 7 are available, the user can choose as per their requirement and budget. The versions are Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Home Premium.

b. Overview of network protocols

The network protocol is a set of rules that set the connectivity between various devices that are located under the same network. Connections between these devices are being made in this case and files are being transferred (AlAmri & Abdullah, 2018). In the network protocol, numerous packets are being transferred and broken into small processes that helps to fulfil tasks on a small scale. This will help to control the large task in the large network. Several protocols are there which will help in determining various aspect of the network security after transferring the data from the source address to destination address. This will help to protect the file confidentiality and mitigate vulnerabilities. Here in order to make the system secure, FTP or File Transfer Protocol is used which is best for transferring files between one system to another. This protocol encourage the computer which is available remotely and make sure the content of the file is secured and hassle free. Therefore, the transfer of data is becoming more efficient and reliable. Transferring file form one device to one another is a simple process however sometime the process cause several problems where both the system can have different conversion of file transfer. Then different types of representing protocol is used. In this case, two type of connection is used where one is used for transferring the data and other is for controlling the connection. Therefore FTP is the best one in order to maintain the security and confidentiality. Several advantages are there in applying the FTP such as it will provide speed, efficiency in to the system. In addition to this it will help in developing the back and forth movement which will increase the productivity and sent the information to the source server.

c. Overview of file and folder sharing method

Files and folders are being shared in this case. Here, first, the folder is created in the host computer, and files are attached with it. Then in the guest computer, the path of that created folder is being selected and files are shared. The path will be selected by clicking on the "Shareable folder option". After that, the respective processes are being followed to access the folders and files from the guest computer and a proper communication process is being established.
